For many years there has been one Halloween prop that I have always wanted to make, and this year I took the dive! Behold, my version of the Haunted Mansion Changing Portrait Prop!

I am a big fan of Halloween, that is no surprise. But I also am a big fan of Disney’s The Haunted Mansion. I love everything to do with the ride, movies, and even the video game! I already built a working grandfather clock prop loosely based off the The Haunted Mansions, but it was lonely and needed a buddy prop to give it company!

So with a lot of research into coding and building small electronics, I full steamed ahead on this prop! After hours of cutting, soldering, coding, and trouble shooting, the prop came to life! I coded the prop to play thunder sounds while lightning flashed in the background. The thunder and lightning was randomized, so the storm felt more “real”. But with the flashes of lightning, the portrait of Medusa, changes into her Gorgon form! Creepy!

Fun fact: While most people learn of the Haunted Mansion through the actual ride or movies, I actually learned of it through the video game! It was only after I adventured through the spooky mansion as Zeke that I watched the movie!
